NexGard or NexGard Spectra?
- NexGard protects against ticks and fleas for one month per chew.
- NexGard Spectra protects against ticks and fleas and also treats common intestinal worms and helps prevent heartworm — one chew a month instead of a separate dewormer.
- Both are for dogs only, from 8 weeks of age and at least 2kg.
Which size should I buy?
NexGard is dosed by body weight, so weigh your dog first (hold your dog on a bathroom scale and subtract your own weight). Choose the pack whose weight range includes your dog:
- NexGard: 2–4kg, 4–10kg, 10–25kg and 25–50kg
- NexGard Spectra: 2–3.5kg, 3.5–7.5kg, 7.5–15kg, 15–30kg and 30–60kg
Puppies grow quickly, so re-weigh them before each dose. For dogs above the largest range, ask your vet how to combine chews. Packs of 3 chews cover three months and cost less per month than single chews.
How to give NexGard
- Give one chew once a month, on the same date each month — set a phone reminder.
- Most dogs eat it as a treat; otherwise hide it in a little food.
- Give it all year round. In Sri Lanka ticks are active in every season.
- Check your dog for a few hours afterwards the first time, and tell your vet if your dog has ever had seizures before starting any tick chew.

Does NexGard Spectra replace deworming tablets?
NexGard Spectra treats common intestinal worms such as roundworms and hookworms and helps prevent heartworm, so many dogs on it do not need a separate monthly dewormer. It does not cover tapeworm — ask your vet about your dog’s full deworming plan.
